Somewhere Else: The 2006 China Trip

A documentary project I created for my university program, commemorating my first trip out of the country.

As a 21 year old kid going to college in the same town he grew up in, an international trip was a Special Thing. And in that chronically introspective time of my life, I felt it crucial to commemorate and make meaning out of the experience.

I won't make fun of that that kid too much, despite all the time he forgets to put mic chords under the shirts during interviews. I miss the time when the world felt large and culture shock was a thing. I'm happy to have crystalized this singular feeling of breathless enthusiasm about a trip when it has become so banal to be outwardly impressed by things (and such a singular period of music taste as well!)

Thanks to my high school teacher Steve Eyer who put on the trip and appeared in an interview. Other interviewees were Jason Montgomery, Kaleb Shipp, and Kara Moss.
